Kickin’ It 2.0 CD nominated for an East Coast Music Award

And finally, we are excited to share with you the news of our latest project with the Glenbow Museum! Canadian composers Alexina Louie, Allan Gordon Bell, and Jocelyn Morlock have been commissioned to compose works inspired by the paintings of Sybil Andrews. These works will be recorded for future commercial release and will be premiered this season as part of Glenbow Museum’s Sybil Andrews exhibition. First performance: October 19, 2019 (private event). More performances will follow during this season.

Thank you and congratulations also to finalists Gavin Fraser and Alice Hong, for sharing their compositions with us.

Big congratulations to the winner of our 17th Annual Composer Competition, Tze Yeung Ho, whose work “shullamite” took home the first prize!

Congratulations also to our 2nd and 3rd place winners, Brendan Bevan and Alyssa Aska for their fine work!

Working on the compositions was very rewarding for us and we are grateful for all the support and interest in the competition, including record-high submissions!

Congratulations to Emilie Cecilia LeBel, the 2016 winner of the Land’s End Composer’s Competition!

Emilie will receive a $1500 commissioning prize upon completion of a new piano trio for the Land’s End Ensemble.  The new composition will be premiered next season.

Second prize was awarded to August Murphy-King.  Joshua Denenberg was awarded third prize as well as the Audience Choice Award.  Congratulations to all!

We are please to announce the appointment of Canadian composer Vincent Ho as our new Artistic Director.

He will be starting his position this season and has put together an exciting line-up of concerts.

We are pleased to announce the winners of our 15th Annual Land’s End Composers Competition!

The first prize winner is Alexandre David of Montreal!  Second prize winner is Roydon Tse of Toronto and third place and audience prize goes to Denis Nassar Baptista of Calgary.  Congratulations to all!

First prize includes a $1500 commission for a chamber work to be performed and recorded by the Land’s End Ensemble at a future date.

Land’s End Composer’s Competition Finalists Announced!

Congratulations to Denis Nassar Baptista, Alexandre David, and Roydon Tse, our three finalists for this year’s composer’s competition! Land’s End’s 15th annual competition will take place in conjunction with University of Calgary School of Creative and Performing Arts on March 2, 7:30 PM at the Rosza Centre, UofC.

Another win for the amazing compostion, Field Notes, by Allan Gordon Bell!

Field Notes, recorded by James Campbell and Land’s End Ensemble, was awarded the WCMA for Classical Composition of the Year!

LE’s CD, Gravity and Grace, has received two nominations at the Western Canadian Music Awards!

The categories are Classical Recording of the Year and Classical Composition of the Year (Field Notes by Allan Gordon Bell).  Listen to it here. Buy the CD.

LE Ensemble had a wonderful time performing several concerts at Festival of the Sound and Ottawa Chamberfest accompanied by Alberta composers, Allan Gordon Bell and Laurie Radford.

Highlights included the premiere of Event Horizon by Laurie Radford, a slightly less terrifying second encounter with Salvatore Sciarrino and more collaborations with old and dear friend James Campbell and new friend, David Schotzko

Land’s End Ensemble debuts at Festival of the Sound! Thursday July 31 – 2:30 pm at Charles Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts

Field Notes by Allan Gordon Bell has won the JUNO for Classical Composition of the year!

Congratulations to Thomas Weideman, winner of the 2014 Land’s End Composer’s Competition!

Thomas will be writing a new work for Land’s End to be performed next season.
