A Mad King

January 24, 2014 7:30 pm
A Mad King is a new music program exploring the legacy of the “extended Pierrot instrumentation”(flute, clarinet, percussion, piano, violin, cello), and the array of compositional possibilities, different aesthetics and variables which can be realized by this combination.

Equally British and Canadian, this concert not only celebrates the work of living Canadian composers, but also the influence of living British composers, both iconic and emerging, in the work of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and the UK-based Toronto-born composer, Christopher Mayo. A premiere by Ilkim Tongur, a current UC doctoral candidate, will also draw inspiration from Sir Peter and Pierrot+.

A Mad King features the brilliant young baritone John Savournin from the UK in Peter Maxwell Davies Eight Songs for a Mad King.
