Gravity and Grace

May 24, 2013 7:30 pm
Land’s End is joined by the great Canadian clarinettist James Campbell for this celebration of the new Allan Gordon Bell CD, Trails of Gravity and Grace. The concert includes the public premiere of Field Notes, a new work composed for Land’s End and James, as well as Phénomènes for piano trio, and Monashee for cello and piano.

As Calgary audiences well know, Allan is one of our foremost composers, particularly in his unparalleled ability to paint the western landscape in striking sound pictures. The new disc includes premiere recordings of four works ranging from 1997 to 2012. Also on the program is the Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano by Paul Schoenfield, with a sort of super-updated klezmer sound, as well as Allan Gilliland Suite from the Sound, also dedicated to James.
